Congratulations on your new Ladewbie! Most of our cats and kittens come from sources unknown and little or no information comes with them, including their exact age! We do our best to collect as much information as possible, but often information is inaccurate or incomplete. We often even have to guess their age.
Every cat or kitten that comes through our doors is examined. All cats/kittens are treated for parasites, tested for FeLV/FIV, microchipped, vaccinated and spayed/neutered. A customized treatment plan is used for animals that are older if deemed necessary. Dental care is also provided as needed prior to adoption.
Cats are masters at hiding illness and, as a result, cats may have medical conditions that are undetected at our Sanctuary. This can be because they are in a pre-clinical state (no symptoms yet) or the symptoms are mild or intermittent and not observed at our facility. Some conditions can’t be exhibited here in our current housing environment and are only apparent when a pet is in a home. Every effort is made to be thorough and thoughtful about the animal’s health status before we make the pet available for adoption. Whenever there is information that needs to be shared, the Adoption Counselor will go over it with the adopter. Many animals will have conditions that will require future care with the adopter’s own veterinarian. If the condition proves to be too much for the new owner, the animal can always be returned to us.
Understanding that each animal may have or will develop their own special needs and preferences is an important part of pet adoption, and we thank you for assuming responsibility for the care of your new cat or kitten. When you adopt a pet, you enable us to help another.
