Desmond was adopted out and his owners declawed him. He was returned three times to Puppykittynycity for (surprise, surprise) inappropriate urination and aggression. He went to several vets, but none recognized the real problem - he was in pain due large chunks of bone left behind from the declaw. Walking, let alone using the litterbox, was painful. It wasn’t until PuppyKittyNYC heard that this could be an issue and brought Desmond to see The Paw Project veterinarian Dr. Michal Hess at Glendale Veterinary Clinic who took radiographs to diagnose the issue. Desmond had surgery to remove the bones and reposition is paw pads, paid for by a very generous donor of The Paw Project and The Patricia H. Ladew Foundation.
Desmond needed a lot of after care so he was transferred to us, where our own The Paw Project veterinarian, Dr. Susan, took over daily bandage changes and managing his after care and pain management. Desmond used the litterbox consistently with us and we saw absolutely NO signs of aggression, even when we were changing the bandages after his surgery.
A woman named Elaine, who fosters for another rescue organization, Little Wanderers NYC, had heard about Desmond and when she saw a post from a couple looking to help a declawed cat, she pointed them in our direction. Desmond went home on April 13, 2024 with his new family through our Seniors for Seniors Program and Desmond’s future medical care will be covered by us.
